Mill Canyon Dinosaur Track Site

The Mill Canyon Dinosaur Track Site is one of the best dinosaur tracksites in Utah dinosaur country, and possibly in North America. It contains over 200 fossilized dinosaur tracks from a variety of dinosaur species. To get there travel 15 miles north on US-191 from Moab and turn left onto Mill Canyon Road (just north of mile marker 141). Continue for 1 mile on Mill Canyon Road/Thronburg to Courtouse Rock primitive campground and the tracksite trailhead. The tracksite is about a quarter mile from the trailhead. A boardwalk with several interpretive signs surrounds the dino tracks. I suggest a 4WD vehicle as there are a few sandy patches along the route. Mill Canyon Road is pretty much impassable in wet weather.
The site was originally a muddy wetland. Footprints were captured in a thin algal layer that filled with sand and silt. This petrifed into the Cedar Mountain Formation of the early Cretaceous Period, some 112 million years ago. There are dinosaur footprints from theropods, sauropods, ornithopods, ankylosaurs, and crocodiles.
